The sixth issue opens in the Outer Rim on Daivak, a few months after the close of the fifth issue. Truly terrifying stuff if you have the highly specific fear of vines worming their way into your ears, nose, and mouth. While we haven’t seen true horror on our screens yet, Cavan Scott and the architects of The High Republic era have introduced their own brand of horror with the carnivorous sentient plants the Drengir. With these awesome characters that we get to see through the art in these comics.Īnd so begins the second volume of Star Wars: The High Republic, “Heart of the Drengir.” With the launch of the second wave of High Republic-era novels this week, the residual questions from the last issue have been answered and now we see what a terrifying threat the Drengir are.Īsk any Star Wars fan what they want to see the franchise do next and you will probably hear “horror” nine times out of ten. Overall, I'm just really excited for phase two of the High Republic books and stories to come and continue telling this unexplored time period. The fact that things are so uncertain right now in the galaxy makes everything have at least twice of an impact. I have no idea where anything can go but I do know that things were a little too intense in the previous issues for it to not have a bang in it. I'm so excited to see the continuation of this adventure. Oh, this was so incredibly cool! A fantastic build-up for what's to come. If this could happen to him – what does it mean for the rest of us?” Overall, it was a fun and chilling experience that made me anxious for the future and to just read what's to come. Some of the panels were even a bit funny because of the expressions the artist chose to give the characters. It's still pretty but it isn't the utter gorgeousness that the previous issues were. It wasn't much, comic issues are generally short, but it was enough of a teaser to thoroughly unnerve me and have me really apprehensive for the future of these people I love.Īs much as I enjoyed it, however, the change in artist was a bit of a blow. There's a difference between reading about something and seeing it and I think the fact that we could see them in action and with all their power really, finally, drove home how dangerous and precarious a situation the Jedi are at the moment. The way that this story became so relevant made it suddenly so much better in my eyes.Įspecially, with the Drengir treat that I had not really been able to appreciate before. Up until now, I had been enjoying well enough this comic, loving the opportunity to see more of Avar Kriss and just generally see what was happening as well as solve some of the mysteries that we had still going on. Where there was hope, there is fear Avar says this is our defining moment, a challenge only the Jedi can face – that in darkness we are the light. Where once there was excitement, there is now uncertainty. “The last few months have been tough for all of us.
